Sorry for no Posting

Hi everyone!  Well I have made it almost two weeks and am not ready to come home yet!!  Sorry for not posting this week...crazy busy!  I have been working and trying to get all of the utilities turn on as well as shop for furniture and set[up delivery of the same.  I never knew it could be so exhausting.  In addition I am trying to clean the place to my specifications.  I am still not done with that.  Hopefully tomorrow I will finish.  I do have living room furniture and bedroom furniture though.  YEAH!  I ma staying with my cousin until next weekend though.  The reason......I am taking my first trip into the bush.  I leave Tuesday morning and come back Friday night.  I m going to Klawock, Alaska which is south of Anchorage.  I am going in by float plane, a first!  I am very excited, I already have my bags packed.

For those of you tracking Threasa, she left Thursday from Naples.  She drove to TN to pick up her brother in law who is making the trip with her.  They left at 7:20 this morning and as of 9:30 tonight they had stopped in Omaha, Nebraska.  They will cross the border into Canada tomorrow.

Hope everyone is well.  Pictures should be up in about a week. I will have LOTS and Threasa may have some as well.  I will try to write from Klawock but don't know if I can get a signal out.  Good night!!!!

NO PICTURES :-(

Unfortunately my laptop does not take the XD card in my camera.  I DO have lots of pictures to put on and promise to do it soon.  I do not have a car, so it makes it difficult to get to a store.  BUT.....that's settled as of tomorrow night at 5:00 pm.  I have rented a car for the week so I can get around.  My car will not be here for another 2 weeks at least!

So, I have more news as well!  I found a place to live.  It is a 3 bedroom/2 bath townhouse; gas fireplace (YEAH), washer/dryer (YEAH) hardwood floors, etc.  It overlooks the mountains as well.  I am going to sign papers tomorrow night after work.  Then I will begin to clean it!!!  Not that it's dirty but I want to clean it my way.

I have already booked a flight back to Naples for Christmas.  Coming in on 12/18 and leaving on 01/06.  Hope to see you then.

It's the Weekend!

Well it's Friday and my first week of work is done. They let me leave 1.5 hours early today. They said it was because I brought the Florida sunshine and warmth with me.  It is beautiful!  Saw Mt. McKinley from downtown Anchorage today.  It is covered with snow and of course I did not have my camera with me.  We were out buying a new office chair.  I am styling now!

This weekend will be spent looking for my new home!  Hope to have my own place by the end of next week.

1st Day on the Job

What a day!  The job is awesome but I am not sure what I am doing...LOL  I did find out that my first travel into the bush will be on August 31st.  I will back into Anchorage on the 3rd of September.  I am looking forward to it and know that I am going SOUTH!  Today was the first day of sunshine in 31 days here.  Everyone credits me with bringing it.  I'll take it!!

Another first for me today.... my cousin cooked Salmon for dinner.  I actually LIKED it.  It was fantastic!  No lie...  Opened a bank account today as well.  WHEW!!!!!  I am tired tonight.  Adjusting to Alaska time already.  Set my watch now and it's only 8:00.  The sun is still shining and it's daylight.  AWESOME!!!

Made it to Alaska

Well, I made it!  It was a long trip but I am here.  It is 54 degrees and light!  It is going to take some getting used to.  I had a telephone call from a co-worker who said she was my mentor....cool!!  She is going to pick me up and take me to work.  My cousin picked me up at the airport and I am settled at his house for now.   He has two GREAT kids - 8 yr old Monique and 5 year old Barringer.  No pictures because it was very cloudy on the way in.  Did she some great shots of Mt. Rainier on the way into Seattle.  That's all for today.  Going to the Golden Corral for dinner.

The Time is Getting Closer

Well, it's Sunday!  The car is packed and I am trying to remember what needs to be done.  I am excited but nervous as well.  My cousin is picking me up at the airport in Anchorage and I'll stay with him until I find a place.  I get there Tuesday and report for work on Wednesday.  Nothing like getting started!  LOL  There will not be any further blogging until Wednesday.  See you all then!

Today is Friday and I am finally packed!  Don't think I have the proper clothes (check out the photo) but I am representing IMMOKALEE!!!  Like the hat?  It will sure come in handy in -30 degree weather.  Stay tuned while I attempt to pack the car tomorrow.
