It's SNOWING!

Woke up this morning to snow flurries.  Looked out off the balcony and saw it was snowing in the foothills.  They call this termination dust.  It is the termination of fall, which was only around 10 days long, and now winter is coming.  You watch the snow make its way down the foothills until it comes down to the ground level.  We put our snow tires on today too.  It's been a crazy week of weather; 2 earthquakes, a wind storm, and now SNOW!  Had to light the fireplace today as well.  Here are a cople of pictures I took off our balcony this afternoon.

Alaska Update

Sorry, no pictures this week.  Just an update as to what has been happening.  This past Monday around noon time we had a 4.9 earthquake.  I did not feel it, I was in the car going to get lunch.

On Friday, we had a wind storm.  We had 40 to 75 mph winds.  It was sunny and blue skies.  It was so odd coming from hurricanes.  In Florida we would have been told to stay inside and it would have been raining and thunder and lightening.  Here, everyone was out walking around as if there was nothing going on.

Today, Saturday around 5:00 am we had a 5.3 earthquake.  I woke up because I either heard something or felt something but went right back to sleep.  Did not even know there had been an earthquake until I heard other people talking about it.

It's starting to get cold.  It's funny to see people still walking around in shorts and lip flops when we are buying snow clothes and wearing sweaters, long pants and jackets...LOL

Check in next week.

Traveling

I am traveling tomorrow into Dillingham, Alaska.  Will not be home until Thursday.  Should have more pictures then.

Do you believe in Global Warming?

These mountains used to be covered in snow.  All that's left is this small glacier.  This is in Denali State Park.

The Highest Peak in North America

What an amazing sight to see.  Mt. McKinley is only able to be seen 20% of the time because of weather.  Needless to say, we were very fortunate this weekend to see the entire mountain.

Mountains!

These are taken from our balcony.  This is what we have to look at everyday and every night.  Poor us?!

Anchorage Alaska Welcomes You!

A couple pictures of downtown Anchorage, our new home state and city!

Do you see what we did?

This eagle is for you POPS!

What is it?

Believe it or not this was a mama moose and a baby moose on my way to work Friday.
Who took this picture if I was driving?   If you said "Threasa" than you would be correct!  LOL

WHEW....It's Back

The Blog is back up.  I am not sure what happened but they had disabled it.  After a few emails back and forth they were so kind to find it and put it back on.

Just an update for this weekend....we are going to Denali National Park this weekend so there probably will not be any posts until we come back.  This is the last weekend the hotels are open up there and we were lucky to find a room.  Hope to post LOTS of pictures upon our return.

Also, I am leaving for Dillingham, Alaska on Tuesday,  Will return on Wednesday, so will probably have more pictures then as well.

Another beautiful picture of Alaska!

Look at the Shadows

If you look at the shadows, you will be able to see the Beluga Whales.  There were pods of them that came in with the tide.  Unfortunately Beluga Whales do not come out of the water, just to the surface and blow.

Labor Day in Alaska

Hello everyone!

Well Labor Day in Alaska was great.  We went for a ride down toward Seward, Alaska.  It is a beautiful drive along the coast in what is called the Turnagin Arm.  We went through the Chugach National Forest and went to the Conservation Center.  They have wild animals that are either being rehabilitated or will live out their life on the center.  These animals are in the wild but are fenced from humans.  We saw black and brown bear, elk, caribou, bison, moose, and coyotes.  We took pictures and will post some later this week.

While driving we stopped along the sides of the road and looked at the amazing sites.  While doing this we saw a large pod of Beluga Whales and Sperm Whales.  We also saw several black bear and two mountain goats.  It was an absolutely beautiful day here in Alaska.

Off to work tomorrow!!!!  Until next time....good night!

Sign for the Alaska State Fair and More Veggies

This is the sign for the Alaska State Fair and some Zuchinni Squash and Rutabagas.  Amazing!

Alaska Vegetables

How's this for a Pumpkin and a head of cabbage?  Yes, they are real.  The Pumpkin weighs in excess of 1,000 ponds and this cabbage weighed 93 pounds.  They grow them big here in ALASKA!!!!!

Update

Hello everyone.  I have finally added a few photos on the blog site.  For those of you wondering, Threasa and her brother-in-law made it to Anchorage Friday, Sept. 3rd in the afternoon.  They came to the airport that night and picked me up as I arrived from my first trip into the bush.

My week was AWESOME!  I spent the week in Klawock, Alaska, which is Southeast of Anchorage.  It took us all day traveling (flying) to get there.  They have a combined K-12 school with 139 students.  We stayed in a fishing lodge that was very nice.  While there we saw a HUGE black bear and a couple of eagles.  Unfortunately I did not have my camera with me either time.

Today, Sunday, we went to the Alaska State Fair where we saw pumpkins that weighed more than 1,000 pounds and cabbages that weigher in excess of 90 pounds.  I am going to post a couple of pictures.

I do have an Alaska telephone number so if you would like it call me on my cell phone and I will give it to you.  Until next time.....

HAPPY LABOR DAY!!!!
